Abstract:
(DSS). One key item for decision support in the field of adaptation are costs to society. It is therefore SALDO’s aim to evaluate various existing adaptation cost assessment frameworks as well as to come up with indicators beyond costs for evaluating adaptation options.
To do so, SALDO will base the evaluation to be undertaken on
(1) economic criteria such as social costs and benefits, as well as an assessment of residual damages,
(2) additional (not primary economic) criteria such as enhancing adaptation capacity, synergies with other sectors as well as with mitigation strategies, social impacts of adaptation on the distribution of welfare, social acceptance of measures and their sustainability and
(3) criteria on tackling uncertainty in adaptation, such as risk management, setting clear priorities, avoiding declining room for maneuver in other sectors or regions or installing adaptive manage
