Abstract:

How the energy and climate targets of the EU can be reached for Austria is the focus of the project. By applying the backcasting method for the time horizons 2020 and 2030 technologies are identified (starting from the energy services and going through the energy cascade of use energy, end energy and primary energy). The technologies are evaluated (for their GHG emissions reduction potential and their economic impacts) for the key sectors buildings, production, mobility and energy supply. For scenario development (containing consistent bundles of technologies embedded in the energy system) the involvement of stakeholders is central. Besides the stakeholder process throughout the project term we focus on the development of methods of target sharing for the Austrian federal states which are different in terms of energy consumption and supply in the sectors under study. This method will be supplied mainly for Styria and can be used as an example for other federal states.
