Field of Research

Three main Research Themes (RT) are addressed:

RT#1: Atmospheric composition change: stratosphere
The overarching goal of RT#1 is to achieve a better understanding of the role of the stratosphere in the climate system and the influence of changes in the chemical composition on chemical and dynamical processes in the stratosphere.

RT#2: Atmospheric composition change: troposphere and boundary layer
The overarching goal of RT#2 is to advance our understanding on impacts of changes in anthropogenic and natural emissions and climate on tropospheric chemistry and air quality.

RT#3: Extreme events: observations, projections and uncertainties
The overarching goal of RT#3 is to advance our understanding about past, present and future changes in the frequency, duration and intensity of extreme events (heat waves, hot days, drought, heavy precipitation events, storms). RT#3 contributes also to the WEGC Joint Research Focus “Hydrological Extremes in a Changing Climate”.
