Abstract:
Tackling climate change is one of the main current challenges of the world. Therefore the European Union has formulated policy targets with the 20-20-20 until 2020 climate strategy of the EU commission in 2008. This strategy foresees a 20 % reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, a reduction of energy consumption of 20 % by an enhancement of energy efficiency as well as an increased use of renewable energy carriers of 20 % until the year 2020. To reach these targets our energy system has to undertake major changes. Long term strategies are necessary to achieve an optimal solution for the future setup of the energy system and the achievement of the named targets. Therefore the project aims at a development of an integrated model framework for the evaluation of climate change effects on an optimal setup of future regional energy systems. Besides climate change also aspects of possible future developments regarding population and settlement structures with the related energy demand is integrated.
