Abstract:

A wind atlas is calculated of the whole Austrian territory, using a combination of geo-statistical and dynamical modeling approaches (regional climate model). As result the mean annual wind speed and the frequency distribution of wind speed of a ten year climate periode is generated on a grid with 100 x 100 meters gridspacing. These wind resources are used as basis for the assessment of  feasible wind energy potentials. Beside specific criterias of spatial planning , technical and economic aspects of wind energy are integrated in the potential modeling. The wind atlas and the assessment’s results are published on the projecthomepage.
