Abstract:

CC-Snow II aims at utilizing improved future climate scenario simulations to determine future natural and artificial snow conditions with respect to climate change and their effects on tourism and economy in the Austrian Alps. A sophisticated interface will be developed to provide the climate and snow model output at both local and regional scales to the socio-economic partners who are involved in this second project phase. The indicators provided by the partners in the first project phase will be used to investigate the effects of the future given situation of the ski areas Schladming and Kitzbühel on tourism and its economic parameters. Uncertainties in the modelling will be quantified to provide further support in the development of sustainable management strategies. Integration of stakeholders will be fostered in terms of an active participation process. The results represent a basis for further investigations of climate change effects on winter tourism and economy.
