The Wegener Center for Climate and Global Change is looking for a

(Senior) Scientist with doctorate (m/f/d),

30 hours a week, expected employment for the period of 6 years with an objective agreement, position to be filled as of 16.04.2023.
Career objective: Permanent employment as Senior Scientist.

Your duties

  • Self-reliant and collaborative research as part of the Carbon Management (CM) Team, with focus on CM methodology (solution framework, toolbox, dynamical modeling, etc.) and accompanying research on CM implementation by public, institutional and personal actors, in cooperation with relevant research in the Field of Excellence Climate Change Graz and further national and international research partners
  • Coordination and co-lead of work on the setup and implementation of the Institutional Carbon Management (ICM) at Uni Graz 2021-2030, in particular through ICM research & knowledge transfer and scientific quality assurance & advice to implementation, in collaboration with the Directorate for Resources and Planning and the Department for Quality Management
  • Publication and dissemination of research results in scientific journals and in the context of knowledge transfer, continuing education and public relations
  • University teaching and (co-)supervision of academic theses (bachelor, master, doctoral theses), including through bringing in the CM expertise
  • Contributing to the scientific support and advice to University management and internal stakeholders of ICM Uni Graz on the implementation of the greenhouse gas reduction goals
  • Expert representation of ICM Uni Graz within the framework of the “Alliance of Sustainable Universities in Austria” and other outside activities, according to functions assigned by the responsible lead persons

Your Profile

  • Completed doctorate in a subject suitable for the area of responsibility (preferably from natural sciences, environmental system sciences, socio-economic sciences) and well-founded skills and understanding in the field of climate change and climate protection management
  • At least 3 years of professional experience at postdoc level in the field of climate research, including experience (desirable) in the conception, acquisition and implementation of competitive research projects
  • Experience with independent research (and with authoring international publications), including with modeling of complex systems and analysis of large amounts of data (also at the basis of own well-founded skills in scientific programming)
  • Experience in university teaching and students supervision in the field of climate change and climate protection management
  • Experience with university structures and processes (desirable already at the University of Graz) and in general with inclusion of and work with stakeholders in institutional management processes
  • Very good written and spoken English and German skills
  • Self-initiative and reliability as well as organizational and team skills
  • Very good communication skills and enjoying work with people in an interdisciplinary and internationally oriented environment
  • Responsible way of working and problem-solving ability
     

Our Offer

Classification: Salary scheme of the Universitäten-KV (University Collective Agreement): B1
The minimum salary as stated in the collective agreement and according to the classification scheme is EUR 60.926,60 gross/year (for full-time employment). This minimum salary may be higher due to previous employment periods eligible for inclusion and other earnings and remunerations.
