(Position to be filled initially for a limited term of six years as Assistant Professor (f/m) with qualification agreement. Career goal is a transition to an open-ended employment relationship as Associate Professor (f/m); 40 hours per week; position to be filled as of October 1st 2019 )
We seek a highly motivated scientist with an excellent research record on atmospheric and/or climate dynamics in the context of regional climate change and extreme weather and climate events. The position holder will be co-leader of Wegener Center’s Regional Climate Research Group and complement its existing expertise in statistical modeling and high-resolution dynamical modeling as well as the expertise on climate and hydrology change research at regional to local scale in the Atmospheric Remote Sensing and Climate System Research Group. The position holder is expected to regularly attract external funding and to collaborate within the Regional Climate Research Group and with the other groups at Wegener Center and research partners on understanding how planetary- and synoptic-scale processes control regional climate and extreme events, and how these processes might change under climate change. Possible research foci could be the large-scale conditions causing heat waves, drought or heavy precipitation and hydrological extremes. We welcome candidates with expertise in designing atmospheric general circulation model (AGCM) experiments in support of the research projects pursued. The ability for and commitment to excellence in teaching as well as teaching obligation at a level of four hours per week in average, at undergraduate and graduate levels, in climate science, atmospheric physics, and related fields is expected.
